The story behind the man.

Rui M. Andrés Psy is a common appearance on calls.

I started making things on the web before I knew what I was doing. Self-taught, stubborn, curious. Never went to college to learn the trade. My goal a decade ago was to have all the knowledge needed to build Facebook in a weekend. Crazy, but it pushed me to grow every single day.

The path went through freelancing, startup founding, agency work, burnout, recovery, a family Art & Crafts business in the mountains, and eventually here, making my own creative studio.

I'm not a specialist. I'm a generalist who goes deep. Product, design, and engineering, the triple threat that most teams split across three people. Over twelve years of bridging those worlds taught me that the best things get made when someone cares.

Career

company venture

Founder & Creative Technologist

2024 – present

GoodBleep

Building the tools and products I wished existed: a living soundscape engine, a balloon popping game, a creative protocol for AI collaboration, and the studio infrastructure connecting them.

Senior Software Engineer

Dec 2024 – present

Blip | FanDuel

Helping develop and launch new products while learning what corporate is all about.

Co-founder & Operations

Serrestre

Hands in paint, not just code. Product, marketing, web, and day-to-day operations for a family Arts & Crafts atelier in Serra do Açor. Woodwork, painted pieces, and fabric creations turned into a real business.

Senior Creative Engineer

Apr 2021 – Apr 2024

Pixelmatters

Where I learned what senior actually means. Led technical strategy and development for high-profile clients including Airkit (acquired by Salesforce) and Veza. Ran mentoring sessions, performance reviews, and bridged engineering and design to catch issues before they became debt.

Creative Technologist

Mar 2020 – Mar 2021

Angry Ventures

First real team after eight years of the startup life. Led tech strategy for clients including TVCine, KindaHome, and Seaside. Built a Shopify–SAP integration from scratch, defined dev processes, and started writing for the company blog.

Founder & Tech Lead

Nov 2018 – Dec 2019

placesum

The startup dream: a location-based content platform built in Ionic, Angular, Elixir, and Postgres. Designed everything from brand to architecture, won StartupVoucher and got a wake-up call at Tourism Explorers. Learned that ambition without market fit is just expensive education.

Founder & Tech Lead

Mar 2016 – Mar 2020

metacosmic

A collective of creatives trying to solve freelancer fragmentation. Won €10k in funding, built the early platform in Elixir and Phoenix, and kept it alive through client work: websites, apps, and the occasional product design. The vision outgrew the timing.

Graphic Design & Web Developer

Mar 2014 – Sep 2015

ez-team

Started designing, ended up leading the web department. Drove the transition from Flash to modern HTML5, built a WebGL-based 3D tourism experience, and raised the quality bar for every project that shipped. Grew faster than the title could keep up.

Freelancer

Sep 2011 – present

Self-employed

The one-man army era. Over 200 projects for 20+ clients across web development, systems integration, and product design. High satisfaction led to repeat business and referrals. Every lesson paid for in stress and late nights.

Education & Programs

Certificate of Pedagogical Skills

Oct – Dec 2023

CRIAP

Because teaching is making too, just with people instead of pixels.

Tourism Explorers

2019

Turismo de Portugal

Acceleration program where placesum met reality. The team agreed: no product-market fit. Painful, valuable.

StartupVoucher

2018 – 2019

IAPMEI

Twelve months of structured support for placesum. Turned a side project into a real attempt.

EmpreendeJa

2017 – 2018

INPI

Won 10k for metacosmic. Learned business plans, taxation, scalability. The unsexy half of making.

Biodiversity and Conservation

Oct 2017

UNESCO

Sustainable development before it was a tech buzzword. Changed how I think about systems.

Permaculture Design Certificate

Feb – Mar 2014

New School of Permaculture

Whole systems thinking from nature, not textbooks. The first design framework I ever learned.

Multimedia Professional Technician

Sep 2009 – Jun 2012

Escola Secundaria de Arganil

Made the merit board and shipped a slice of a video game in Unreal Engine for the final project. The beginning.

Beyond the Screen

I do Arts & Crafts while helping grow the family business at Serrestre, a creative atelier in Serra do Açor where woodwork, painted pieces, and fabric creations are made by hand and sold to the world.

I studied permaculture before I studied programming patterns. I went to a UNESCO forum before my first tech conference. These things shaped how I approach design: start with the ecosystem, not the feature.

I care about craft in all its forms, and I believe the best tools are the ones that get out of the way.
